2001
In 2001, we established the first vegetable garden in five raised beds. The four large beds were, and are, part of the main rotation while the fifth smaller bed supported rhubarb and strawberries. We also planted out the soft fruit bed with blackcurrants, gooseberries, blackberry, strawberries and raspberries.
We purchased all our fruit from Deacons, and were very pleased with the quality. However, the raspberries failed (this may have been due to shortcomings in the management rather than the plants) and were replaced in 2002. As part of our plan to attract wildlife, we excavated a small wildlife pond, which a couple of years later became a bog garden when the liner burst.
