Monday 11th November

Dan finished the preparation for the hedging plants and got the first bed planted up yesterday. I think it looks pretty good.

He and Andy also split and stacked more wood. A session next weekend should see the backlog (pun intended) dealt with. The woodstore looks fair braw.

Our tractor is poorly – it needs a new water pump and some pipework. John the Tractor has examined her and is off to source the parts.

Took Diesel back to the vet, this time for his annual checkup and vaccinations. He hates the car but seems quite happy in the surgery.

Tuesday 12th November

Glorious day, so no computer and out in the garden. Murdo was here, but Dan was deskbound, so Murdo knocked in the posts for the fence where the Spinney will go, when we get round to planting it, then got on with weeding the second bee mix bed. He almost got it finished before dusk.

I weeded the rhubarb bed and started on the leek bed. Before that, I soaked the field shelter floor, left it for a bit then went back and scraped it. Much better, but not good enough so I’ve soaked it again and will give it another go tomorrow.

Bryn and I had a walk round Sheepfold. And Gwenna, when she stopped barking at the ponies and deigned to join us. Plenty grass at the gate but not much elsewhere, so let the sheep out into the big field with the ponies.

I walked over to open the gate between the far paddocks and the strainer is broken. Dan will not be happy.

Dottie’s hidey hole is in the end of the roller. Diesel can’t get in.

Bryn helped me with the poo picking.

Dan and I had our Covid and flu vaccinations today. Is that a date?

Wednesday 13th November

Both of us feeling a bit off today; Dan spent most of it asleep.

Friday 15th November

Murdo was here today; he and Dan finished the fence at the Spinney and it’s now ready for planting. We need to decide which trees to order – probably mainly silver birch with a scattering of others. Crab apple, rowan, maybe holly. Hazel, for coppicing. And some willow.

I finished weeding the leek bed and half the carrot bed and the fruit garden. It was cold. Almost done though, and we’ll be able to get it covered next week before the weather is forecast to break.

Saturday 16th November

Moved the sheep into the Spinney for a few days until they go home; loads of grass in there, and plenty browse too. I’ll move them back to Near Ditch on Tuesday morning, so it’s easy to load them.

Dan finished planting the honeysuckle hedge. I couldn’t face weeding, so cleaned out the potting shed and the greenhouse. Stuff always gets dumped during the summer, so it’s now nice and tidy. And I planted some bulbs in pots.

We pegged out the site for the sitooterie. The paint has been delivered, so I’ll need to drop it in to the shed man. It looks due west. Sparky Dave coming tomorrow, to check out the power supply. There’s already armoured cable out there from our static caravan days.

Sunday 17th November

Cold and frosty this morning, but cleared to a lovely day. I had a lie in until 8am. Braw. Dan was supposed to be playing football but his knee is playing up, so he strimmed instead.

Smokey didn’t eat his dinner. He’s still very itchy. Might have a wee word with the vet.
