Goslings in the big wide world
« on: June 16, 2012, 12:44:27 pm »
We penned our geese parents, goose aunty and 5 remaining offspring this year in a large penned area with lots of good greens and grass and an ample house and bath, all of which has been successful (so far).  Was thinking of lowering an area of fencing to allow the geese (not goslings) out for a swim and bath in the adjacent large mill-pond which I'm sure they'd appreciate.  Not sure when to let the goslings out though - we have 2 Muscovy drakes and I think there may be a bit of a rumpus either with them or with some of the teenage Muscovy ducks if the goslings come out too.  Just wondered how long I should keep them in, they're 3 weeks old just now so too young - perhaps 6 weeks?  Any thoughts appreciated, thank you.
registered soay, castlemilk moorit  and north ronaldsay sheep, pygmy goats, steinbacher geese, muscovy ducks, various hens, lots of visiting mallards, a naughty border collie, a puss and a couple of guinea pigs
