Urgent request for PLT
« on: July 17, 2016, 10:28:17 pm »
Hi all, just putting this out there, just in case.
Our old spaniel had needed to be on regular PLT for several years. whilst we try our best to get away with as little as possible it is the only thing that keeps him mobile. usually we get prescription from our vet and then buy them online as they are much cheaper, we needed to reorder a couple of weeks ago as stocks running low. unfortunately our usual online dispenser was out of stock. we weren't too worried as we thought if worse came to worse we would just get some from vet. HOWEVER, we rang at end of last week to discover that they have none either. after much scouring of other sites no joy. apparently there is a manufacturing problem. we are talking to the vet again tomorrow re alternatives but she has already warned us that in his case, nothing, but nothing works. without them he becomes quickly unable to stand and is in constant pain. we run out on Thursday this week. has anyone got any or knows where we might be able to get some . thanks

I've drawn a blank too.  Champdogs has a forum, you could try joining that to see if anyone could give you some to tide you over meantime, or any other dog forums.

http://forum.champdogs.co.uk/topic_show.pl?tid=39218  This is old but there might be a new thread.

I'm having to go back on steroids for my arthritis immune system disorder but would rather not.  I suppose metacam etc doesn't work?

Try other vets in the local area. If any have them, they will be able to dispense them to you with your vet's authority.
Please be careful about asking other dog owners to lend/give/sell you any to tide you over, as a prescription medicine can only come from a pharmacy or vet.
People have recently got in a lot of trouble for breaking the law by advertising on gumtree etc their leftover medicines from dogs/cats that have got better or died.

we spoke in more depth to vet yesterday. she knows our dog very well and is very apologetic but cant do anything other than keep scouring herself. we're going to try metacam for a bit tho previously it wasn't up to the job. I know your right fsm (and you should know of course). we're just terribly worried as the difference between him on them and off them is chalk and cheese and from previous episodes could prove to be life ending. we do have a live prescription for them but cant find anywhere to use it

Get your vet to call Elanco direct. They are struggling to manufacture but did have some short dated (Nov 2016) tubs left they can send out.

If that is a no go, pm me and I'll ask around on my vet nurse fb group to see if there is anything else to try
