Hello from Bala, North Wales
« on: October 13, 2011, 04:16:26 pm »
Done this the wrong way around - asking for help and posting before introducing myself - how rude, apologies!!!

We moved to Bala from Birmingham about 6 months ago, and have been busily 'doing up' the land (the house will have to wait ;D) - endless fencing, weed battling etc.  We inherited a flock of 5 semi wild chickens (now happily housed at night) and added to those with 4 day old chicks (unhappily all cockrels - eating our way through those with gritted teeth :P) and 2 lovely POL Warrens.  Expecting a few ex batts in November.  Started our flock of sheep last month (10 Beulah ewe lambs and 5 Lleyn Ewe lambs) and 2 weeks ago started with our pigs (4 Saddlebacks).  So its all happening now.  Loving it all and also looking forward to starting paid work again in the woods (I'm a Forest School leader).  Will upload some photos if I ever get Broadband faster than 0.125 Mb!!!

The Forum has been so helpful so many thanks to all!!

Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Hello from West Wales. Just joined Accidental Smallholder today. We moved from England to our smallholding about 5 years ago. We just have sheep and dogs at the moment - hoping to add to list of animals when we've finished renovating the house.  Even though I always thought of myself as a real die-hard townie, I wish now that I'd made the move to the country 40 years ago!
