Hello All,

Spent most of this evening reading through the site and these forums. Lots of great knowledge and advice on here. Hoping to soak up much of this and maybe give some help back wherever I can.

Hey Morgan,

I've been thinking about tamworths for a while actually as I've about a half acre of mainly tough scutch grass (couch grass?) to tackle. Thought they'd save me a wee bit of back ache! But I think any pigs will be next year as I couldn't give them enough of my time at present..

The Tammies would devour it! My fondness for them comes from their Irish lineage. Everyone says they are the escapologist of pigs, but we've found them rather easy (bar day one! to train to the electric fence). The kids just can't get enough of them, as they have wonderful personalities. We're biased, I suppose, but we just lov'em!

where in wicklow are you? I lived in ireland for over 15 years, and spent most my weekends in the wicklow hills and a lot of time in glengalough staying with friends.
Have to admit I do miss the hills....its quite flat here, but oh so beautiful. we have about 33 acres its mixed field and forest, right now we have 8 sheep and 23 chickens and are growing most of our own veg, there lots of work to do rstoring teh old barn and general up keep..but its fun

Hey, thanks for the welcome posts.

Suomi, I live just 15 minutes drive from Glendalough. It's beautiful part of the world to be in though I've only got half an acre to call my own. Not sure what I'd do with 33 acres!

I'm growing a small selection of vegetables at the moment but I'm hoping that later in the year when I have more time I will get some hens, followed by two pigs next year (tammies by the sound of things!).
Hope the barn restoration goes well, keep us updated!
