Can anyone recommend a doggy insurance company? My young lurcher seems to be both rocket charged and extremely clumsy

She's only six months old and currently nursing several stitches to the shoulder, a deep cut which was obviously obtained out of vet working hours

I can see more expense ahead so thinking I really need her insured for her sake and my pockets!
Any company I should avoid?

Animal friends/more than/Tescos......

Pet plan/ Pet protect/ \marks and Spencers

U want a life time not 12 month policy... Otherwise ear infection now, will pay out fine, but anything to do with ears several years down the line, excluded and won't pay for.

You really do get what you pay for with pet insurance.

When people give us their animal friends claim forms we shrug and say we will try and claim. Petplan are very very good.

I've got both Kennel Club & Aviva. Haven't claimed and don't intend to

. The Kennel Club was specifically for my bitch who I intend to breed from, and they cover the breeding side of insurance for her.
It's like any insurance, you buy what you can afford for the best cover you can get.
Don't forget to get lifetime cover and ensure if you claim for a specific illness that will be ongoing, that the company will insure for that as an ongoing thing and not just for that year.

So when they say '£3000 per condition for 12months'. What exactly does that mean?

Next level up is covered for life so think I'll go with that

I'd never be able to self insure, as soon as the tax bill comes it'd look far to tempting!

I think an account especially for your dog or dogs is best in the long run, that's what I recommend too......the money is always yours.......I used to do that for my Tax too and other stuff

NFU was always a problem paying out when I was in private practice. Having tmo 'prove' the need for treatment. It may be better now??
Petplan are good and I know of a few people with the kennel club insurance who have had a service beyond what was in the contract.

Pet plan is good, my Dobie has the gold lifetime cover. My terrier has Kennel club insurance which will only cover for 12 months p er condition but they were good at paying out during that period.

good pet insurance can never be cheap. For eg I wouldn't touch anything from or underwritten by certain companies eg E&L insurance before asking a vet about their experience of them....:-)))
