Camping in North Dorset
« on: August 25, 2012, 04:53:32 pm »
Our first ever campers have arrived for the night!  Pouring at the moment but there is blue sky appearing slowly.  I'm hoping next year the campsite will be a good earner for the 28 days we can offer it (tractor fund!)

If anyone is in my area and needs a place to camp, then please come and say hi, pitch your tent and come and have a look round the farm and tell us about yours!

Congratulations.      Now you're off the ground, let's hope you get lots more.  Why only 28 days?

Not sure, but it probably doesn't need change of use or planning if it isn't used more than 28 days per year.
I know that is the case with private grass airfields for farm strip flying.... 28 days or less use per year and it doesn't need planning........

I was a member of the camping and caravanning club and they have 'certified sites' where only five tourers/camper vans/trailer tents were allowed, but unlimited tents.  Landowners often had these because they didn't need planning permission.

Fishing: I have a mile and a half of River Stour, rented out from Sept-March but I retain a couple of rods anyway - this is from the Sturminster fishing club:

The main species to be caught are Roach, Chub, Bream, Dace and Perch. There are also some nice Tench to be caught as many of the swims are lined with lilly pads in the summer months. Every season a good number of large pike are caught with fish to over 20lb being caught each year.

Bere Marsh Farm? Is that where they used to make and sell ice cream once upon a time?

I nearly put in a tender for a council smallholding in Shillingstone..... Nice area, but decided I'd be better off renting grazing where I am.

I must pass you every time I take pigs to C and S.

Does some of land incorporate the large field opposite the mill on the river?

the campsite is in and around the woods in the middle of the farm by the river.  Later on after haymaking, it will be possible to camp in the big water meadows
