Does anyone have any recommendations for suppliers of bare root fruit trees? I spent a large part of the "summer" clearing one of our fields so we can start growing some fruit tress. I'd like to have a proper orchard, I've got the space but the budget will dictate how far we can go. Id like to grow a variety of apples (edible and cider), pears (edible and cider), plumbs, cherries and a few others that we are yet to decide on.

If there's anything in the South Wales are I'd like to support local, but as long as they can deliver I don't mind going further a field. If the budget allows it we have space for 50-100 trees but I'm happy to start on the lower side and expand.

I've had good trees and advice from Adam's apples / talaton plants. I believe they're near Exeter. They offer sets of trees based on cropping season, tree type, purpose of orchard etc. Stakes, guards etc. They also discount if you buy larger quantities of trees. I'd use them again.

My mixed orchard has been in for nearly 4 years now and is mostly cropping well.

www.deaconsnurseryfruits.co.uk on the IOW but deliver.  It's 25 years since we bought from them but they were so helpful on the phone and happy to use their knowledge to help me choose varieties suitable for a cold part of Scotland. Still on the go after all those years so they must be doing something right.

A timely topic, we'll be planting up our orchard soon. We're finally moving to our 2.5 acres in North Waes in January, and the first order of business will be establishing the fruit trees and bushes, as well as a new hedgerow around the lot.

We've had some good ones from Ashridge trees (they deliver) and from Tesco!

From Tesco, really! Which particular plants did you get from them (that turned out well)?

F P Matthews (one of the biggest UK suppliers) and/or Keepers Nursery.  I've been happy with both.  (Put yourself on Keepers' mailing list and watch out for late season sales and then plant any late purchases v promptly.)

Supermarket purchases have proved quite successful also:  v cheap, albeit limited varieties (popular ones/nothing unusual) although they tend to make sure that the different varieties they sell will be pollination-compatible for multiple purchases. 

If one is a Nat' Trust member, another option for perhaps vintage/unusual varieties would be to check out any National Trust properties with orchards:  they will do "grafting days" when one can select freshly (real time) grafted varieties at a fairly reasonable price .

I wantes to order lots of fruit bushes and some trees. Unfortunatelly by the time i wanted to order they were out of stock...

Proces are very good indeed. You get wholesale prices when you order about £200 i think. Unfortunatelly you have to order in late summer for autumn delivery, as tehy have limited stock.

I know this is a bit late but just doing an initial browse of the forum & thought I'd share a few recommends from S.Wales & South West areas.

ciderappletrees.co.uk/ - Somerset sort of area - had some cider apple trees off them last winter (M25 standards) - lovely folks. Regular apples too.

John was always very accomodating to my small requirements even if his main focus seemed to be bigger commercial cider orcharding (much as bush trees)

I always meant to check https://www.tomtheappleman.co.uk/ as he has a good few interesting old varieties - guess I haven't used him yet as my focus to date has mainly been on M25 standards (with stem builders) for an old traditional cider orchard.

Thanks for that list of suppliers. I will definitely check them out. I had to place my order early this year as I missed out last year and the loss of a year when you're trying to establish an orchard is painful one!

I will contact the welsh mountain cider guys this year and see what they can recommend though as its something that I wouldnt mind a dabble in
