This is a day course held in our smallholding, with our lovely flock of Black Welsh Mountain sheep.
A mix of classroom teaching and plenty of hands-on sessions with the sheep.
Covering:
Getting started with sheep - choosing a suitable breed. Legislation, ear tags, paperwork.
Sheep health - preventing problems such as footrot, flystrike. Worming and vaccinations. Treating common conditions. Drawing up a flock health plan.
Handling, catching and examing sheep. Routine tasks.
Grazing, grassland and feeding sheep
Finishing growing lambs for breeding or meat.
