I have a ‘wether’ going to have his one remaining testicle removed… Any advice on how to travel him to the vets? He’s a big lad - he must weigh 60kg+  - I’ve hired a livestock trailer and was going to put a bed of straw on the floor…
I’m familiar with travelling horses but not sheep so any advice welcome.

How can I starve him before going? I don’t have access to a barn, I have sheep hurdles but I doubt I could keep him contained…. Bit worried about it all tbh

In the trailer with some straw will be fine, would be ok in the back of a pickup if you have such a thing

As long as he hasn't had concentrates or extra feed, that's all you can do. There isn't much nutrition in the grass at the moment and, most place, not much grass

Can you leave him in the trailer overnight with water?

Put him in the trailer overnight and  this will empty his stomach if you don't put deep straw down , but take fresh straw to put down after the operation  , it will also mean that there is no stress about loading on the day , when it can all go wrong with stress on both sides

I think he is likely to try to ram the side of the trailer…. Good point about the loading stress…I would need to use some feed to get him in there 🫣

Line the trailer with straw bales.  Also use any dividing doors to confine him.  Both will prevent ramming.  Sheep usually settle in a trailer quickly.
