Yes, Freddiesfarm, they are Dales. We have 5 Dales and 2 Fells, plus an Irish Draught mare and a Dartmoor x Shetland. The ones in the photo are broken to drive as well as ride. As you can see, the gelding is a lot wider, but the mare will put on weight now the grass is coming. The good thing about them is that they are good doers.
People wonder how we tell them apart, as they are all black, but some have a small star. I like to think I can tell the difference, but I have to confess that I have gone in the field and brought out one to ride, and had to return it when I realised it was the wrong one!!!!
We were at a show locally last year. The mare in the photo won the Mountain and Moorland class. I was waiting at the ringside to hand over to my hubby the mares younger sister, who was in the youngstock mountain and moorland. The lady judge asked hubby what he was playing at, entering the mare he had just told her was 11 in a youngstock class. He kept his face straight as he told her this pony was only 3. She said nothing
