When will ligaments soften?
« on: April 01, 2018, 06:27:16 pm »
So Pia is about to kid. She was due on the 28th or 29th (in with Billy for 2 days). I haven't noticed any significant change in her tendons at all over the past week. My question is can they soften in the immediate hours prior to labour or is it always fairly drawn out?
Could they start to noticeably soften at 8pm and she gives birth at 10pm or will there always be a lag of a good 5 to 10 hours between the two events?

Thanks all
H

I am assuming that you mean the ligaments around the base of the tail ?? A classic example of the goat due to kid . It can happen a few days before they kid as an indicator that they are getting close. I cannot put a time on it. You need to wait for further signs.???????? Good luck ,

Yes. Ligaments is correct. Have updated topic name to reflect.
So generally they go a bit in advance rather then just a couple of hours before...

Gestation length in a goat usually about 145-152 days but can vary. Usually I notice the ligaments soften and over a period of a week or two, around the same time as bagging up, but over the last 12-24 hours, the ligaments almost disappear they are that soft.
Hope your girl kids ok
