Cara Seed Potatoes
Cara seed potatoes are main crop potatoes which are best planted in April allowing harvesting from the end of August.
Cara potatoes produce pink and white tubers with floury white flesh and the eyes are shallow which allows easy peeling.
Cara is a heavy cropper with great storage qualities and good blight resistance A classic baking variety with pink eyes. Also good for mashing and chipping.
Planting can take place as soon as the risk of frost has passed in your area, during spring, March-May. Plant 10-13cm (4-5inches) deep in shallow ridges. Seed should be 20-23cm (8-9inches) apart in the row, with 60cm (24inches) between each row.
Earth the plants up when they are 20cm (8inches) tall. This encourages a higher yield of potatoes.
Watering your plants well will improve crop yield and discourage scab from forming. Harvest July - October.
